What is a risk assessment
a risk assessment is the combined effort of: identifying and analysing potential events that may negatively impact individuals, assets, and/or the environment; and making judgments “on the tolerability of the risk on the basis of a risk analysis” while considering influencing factors.
why are risk assessments important
Risk assessments are very important as they form an integral part of an occupational health and safety management plan. They help to: Create awareness of hazards and risk. Identify who may be at risk (e.g., employees, cleaners, visitors, contractors, the public, etc.).
What must you include in a risk assessment
The site location the people present date weather conditions hazards identified potential risks (level: high, medium, or low) Equipment being used Control measures New risk new risk level after control measures
What are the stages you need to look at with a risk assessment
Identify who is at risk
Identify the hazards
Identify the risks
Rate the risks - low, medium, high
suggest effective control measures to reduce the risk
Re rate the risk with control measures in place to hopefully the potential risks
