Q

Define “Weimar republic”

A

The defeat of the German empire and abdication of the king after the defeat of Germany in ww1 gave an opportunity to the parliamentary form of government. A national assembly met at Weimar and established a democratic constitution with a federal structure. Deputies wer now elected to the German parliament/reichstag. However this govt was not well taken by its own people. The citizens of Germany held the Weimar republic responsible for the defeat of ww1 and the humiliation at Versailles. The newly formed republic was forced to pay the war charges. So now the European money lenders had now turned into debtors
