What is prophethood?
The term used of the messengers is god beginning with Adam and ending with the prophet Muhammad
Why are prophets important
They are the channel of communication between god and humans - example Quran 2:136
- Humans chosen to carry gods message- Responsible for the revelation of gods word
Many prophets are people from other religions like Christianity and Islam
Key facts about Adam
Formed by god from a handful of soil ; eve created from his rib
- Lived in paradise-disobeyed god- banished
- Adam confessed sins - forgiven became first prophet
Importance of Adam
Became the first prophet
Called the father of the human race
Muslims believe Adam was created as gods khalifa
According to tradition Adam built the first ka’aba in Makkah. Most sacred site in Islam
Represents the metaphorical house of god
Facts and importance of Ibrihim
Born into a polytheistic family- believed in just allah- became a Muslim
Seen as father of Arab people
Father of 2 sons- Ishmael and Ishaq
Regarded as a hand ( has inner knowledge that there is one god)
Greatest of prophets before isa
Facts and importance of Isa
Regarded as a prophet (Quran 2:87) successor to Muhammad
Apart from Muhammad isa and his mother Maryam are the most important figures in the Quran
Received a revelation from god- performed miracles
Muslims deny the Christian teaching of the trinity and reject that isa is god
Quran teaches that Isa did not die on the cross he as taken up to heaven and will reappear in the second coning
Importance of Muhammad
Through him the will of allah was revealed fully and precisely. Seal of the prophets
- teachings and practises are the basis of Islamic law
Revealed the Quran through Muhammad during the night of power- Quran states that the night is better than a thousand months

Quran is considered to be the most holy book to Muslims- sacred word of god
Chosen recipient and messenger of the word of god
Quran 33:40 “Muhammad is the last in a chain of prophets sent by allah”
Importance of Muhammad (3)
Found Islam and conquered Makkah leading Islam to become on of the most followed religions in the world
Destroyed all 360 idols of pagan gods to show how allah is the only god you worship
