What were the Jim Crow Laws?

A

Segregation laws. Black people were forbidden from entering or using “white areas”. This included areas such as train compartments, restaurants and bathrooms.

A

The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People. Their goal esd yo fight the Jim Crow Laws through non-violent protests.

A

African Americans in Montogomery, Alabama refused to ride segregated busses. This protest lasted for 382 days and MLK Jr and Rosa Parks were involved.

A

A

The aciton of depriving someone of their properties, land, possessions and rights.

What were the Protection Policies?

A

Aboriginal people were sent to Church missions and reserves where they lived in poverty. Supposed to give dispossessed Aborginal people a better life, but its goal was to teach them a European way of life. Gave the Government the right to seperate children from their parents.

What was Assimilation?

A

A policy which aimed to make Aboriginal children think, act and be white by removing them from their families and cultures. This created the stolen generation.

A

An Aborginal protest during the celebration of 150 years since the first fleet arrived in Australia. First national gathering of Indigenous people.

A

Stopped at churches, schools and universities to educate about the civil rights movement.
