Edger
Horizontal metal structure which is a part of scaffolding. It comes in lengths of 7 m and 10 m.
Sway brace
I diagonal metal structure for scaffolding which comes in lengths of 7 m and 10 m equivalence so as to facilitate the square 7 m and 10 m dimensions
Rosettes
the hubs on the standards
Platforms
Wooden decks used in scaffolding 10 feet and 7 feet
Rails
For hanging green screen which allows for opening/closing by curtaining
Splice plate
small brackets which fasten 2 rails together
Black wrap
foil for covering spill light (Comes in a large roll)
Lowriders and highriders
sticks that don’t have the tripod bottom but rather a square of plywood “pancake” as a base for providing light in tight places (tripods have a large footprint)

Half Burtons, hard 90s, and swivel Burtons.
Use for connecting 2 inch diameter pipes
Texh 12
Extremely strong cut and abrasion-resistant Dyneema fiber.
Never cut these ropes!
Standard (noun)
Vertical steel component used in scaffolding which contains rosettes. Comes in lengths of .5, 1, 2, and 3 m lengths

Spud wrench

What is the video village?
The area which has all the video monitoring equipment when doing a shoot.

Overkeeper aka slider
for allowing camera to slide. Very expensive. Usually requires 2 people to carry as insurance against the possibility of damage. Has a case.
What is a grip?
Grips shape light.
An intelligent muscle.
What is a DP?
Director of photography. This person chooses what type of lighting mood is required for the scene
Gaffer
In charge of the lighting. Once the DP describes the mood he’s trying to set, it’s up to the gaffer to translate that into actual lighting gear
Best boy
Second grip. The foreman. An important link between the key grip and the other grips.
Key grip
Job is together a crew consisting of the best boy and as many grips as necessary to get the job done.
Also has to plan what is needed for the next series of shots.
Bullpen
This is where grips in waiting are standing by during at take or rehearsals
High person
The grip who works up on the perms or cat walks
Call time
The time to be ready to work
Green beds
Or “Greens” are a second set of portable (temporary) walkways or cat walks or scaffolding that hang by chains underneath the perms to just above the set.
Ozone
The space between the walkways ie The suspended Green beds and schedule he connected by boards or planks. If walking onto these planks one must always wear full fall protection gear.
Perms
Short for permanent walkways or cat walks. Usually at heights of 25 feet to 100 feet above the ground
Safety rails
Guard all walkways.
Backings
Also called drops or translights. Can be flown or hung on the greens to provide an artificial backdrop to a scene example a Mountain View.
Sailboats
Long adjustable poles, raised like a mast on a sailboat, that are welded to add very heavy bass on wheels.
Drops or backings can be hung from these.
Gels
Diffusion or colour filters
Gobos
Flags, Nets, silks, etc.

Contains all the technical information for the day’s shoot

A spray used in the industry to tone down a bright object such as a white picket fence that may look too white for the camera.
