Rigging Flashcards
Hoisting
The Transportation of a load by a crane or hoist
Load
Object being moved
Rigging
All the components connecting the load to the hook of the crane or hoist
Lift
The process of moving the load from start to finish
5 types of hoisting
Construction, Industrial operations(Usually permanently installed), Maintenance(Portable cranes), Arena/trade show rigging, and Personnel hoisting
Competent Person
One who has authorization to fix problems
Qualified Person
One who has the ability to solve problems and knows what they are doing
What is involved in lift planning?
Where and how, storage, unloading, hoisting, what materials are needed, and who do we need?
Do you need an engineer
Only if the procedure or equipment is unusual or not standard practice
The qualified rigger is. . .?
Often the signal person
What are some considerations when planning a lift?
Obstructions/prohibited spaces, Fall zones, Clearance, Load path
Rated load, rated capacity, working load limit, load rating, load capacity, weight capacity, safe working load are all examples of what?
The actual maximum load you can place on a piece of equipment and maintain an appropriate margin of safety.
What is breaking strength (Ultimate Strength)
Point at which it will break
What are softeners?
Relatively soft items used to protect rigging, load, or both
What pieces of equipment are used for material handling?
Forklifts, pallet jacks, machinery lifts, rigging dolly’s, air casters, rollers, pry-bars, and lever dolly’s
