- Never able to establish himself securely on the throne
- Disappearance and probable murder of Princes in the tower
- Lacked warm personality of Edward IV
- Mistake in foreign policy towards Brittany led Henry to gain support from France
- People ready to believe the worst due to his ruthless nature
