Ribs & Differences Male + Female Pelvis + 3 Main Joints Flashcards
True Ribs
• Ribs that directly articulate with the sternum with their costal cartilages
False Ribs
• Ribs that indirectly articulate with the sternum
Floating Ribs
• Known as “vertebral ribs.” They do not connect with the sternum centrally & are only connected to the vertebral column
Difference between female and male pelvis
• Females are the Wider and males are narrow
• females Ilia is more wider and flared
• It is lighter in weight for the female
• Females wider and rounded
Synarthrosis (immovable)
• Joints that allow little or no movement
• Most or the joints are fibrous
• Ex: Joints between skull bones surrounding the brain.
Amphiarthosis (Partially Moveable)
• Allow slight movement
• Ex: Pubic symphysis, joint that strongly unites the left and right
Diarthrosis (freely moveable)
• Allows the bones to be completely mobile and move freely
• Ex: Elbow, Shoulder & ankle
3 Effects of Aging On The Muscular System
• Loss of muscles (strength)
• Hips & knees bend over
• Decrease in height
Effects of Aging On The Musculoskeletal System
• Osteoarthritis - Bone density weaker, bone injuries, heart slower
• Loss of balance, our bones aren’t strong
• Our height is decreased, bunched over since our bones heavily affect for our gravity
