16
Q

Where does the neuro bundle run and what order?

A

VAN found between internal intercostal and innermost intercostal running along the costal groove on inferior side of rib

17
Q

Bucket handle motion?

A

moves superiorly and laterally to increase transverse diameter of ribs 1-2, 8-10

18
Q

What is pump handle motion?

A

Move superiorly and anteriorly to increase AP diameter, ribs 3-7

19
Q

What is caliper or pincer motion?

A

Downward and posterior with inhalation Upward and superior with exhalation Ribs 11 and 12

20
Q

What is torsional movement?

A

For example when T5 is rotated to left on T6

Left 6th rib:

  • posterior aspect turns externally
  • anterior extremity more flat with its inferior border sharp

Right 6th rib:

  • posterior aspect of rib turns internally
  • Anterior extremity having its superior margin excenuated
21
Q

what causes torsional motion?

A

caused by articulation at inferior costal facet

22
Q

Anteior subluxationn?

A

Both posterior and anterior parts of ribs are moved anterior

23
Q

Posterior subluxation?

A

Anterior and posterior parts of rib move posteriorly

24
Q

Examples of respiratory SD?

A
  • Bucket handle ribs 1 & 2 & 8-10
  • Pump handle 3-7
  • Caliper 11-12
25
Q

Structural SD examples?

A
  • Torsional due to rotation of spine
  • Non physiologic such as ant or post subluxation
26
Q

What is inhalation dysfunciton?

A
  • Rib being held in postion where inhalation is easy and restricted exhalation
27
Q

What is exhalation dysfunction?

A
  • rib being held in postion of exhalation so exhale is easy and inhalation is restricted
28
Q

What is a key rib?

A
  • First rib to be treated, it maintains a group of ribs in dysfxnl motion
  • BITE
    • Bottom rib is key with an inhalation dysfunction
    • Top rib is key with exhalation
29
Q

What does rib doesnt move in exhalation mean?

A

Inhalation dysfunction

30
Q

What does symmetrical in inhalation indicate?

A

Inhalation dysfunction

31
Q

What does it mean to say depressed rib?

A

Exhalation dysfunction

32
Q

What does it mean to say inhalation restriction?

A

exhalation dysfunction

33
Q

Causes of rib dysfunction?

A
  • Thoracic scoliosis or kkyphosis
  • Pectus excavatum/carinatum
  • OA or osteoperosis
  • Increased chest wall diameter
  • abnormal tensions of shoulder mm
  • Trauma to rib cage
  • lifestyle
