Ribs Flashcards
name the seven types of rib injuries/subluxations
- costo-sternal
- costo-chondral
- costo-angle
- costo-transverse
- costo-vertebral
- anterior dorsals T4-T12
- anterior dorsals T1-T3
costa-sternal includes which ribs
upper 6 as they meet up with the sternum and attach with ligaments
what does the pt present with if the have a costa-sternal rib subluxation
pt presents with isolated pain especially upon palpation
after a cost-sternal rib adjustment how long may the pain last
48 hours
xosto-chondral includes which ribs
upper 10 ribs
starting superior and medially
at which rib is the costo-chondral junction located at the mid-clavicular line
5th rib
what type of pain does the pt present with for costo-chondral
this subluxation does NOT cause intercostal neuritis/neurlagia
how long for pain to go away after a costo-chondral subluxation
this may take up to 48 hours for the pain to subside and up to 6 weeks for stability
what do costal angle fixations create
intercostal neuralgia/neuritis
aching along rib
for a costal angle is there more pain in the compressed or stretched space
compressed space most painful while the stretched space is less
what type of pain does pt present with costal angle
pt can present with pain upon taking a deep breath, asthma, pulmonary dx.. COPD, scapular abnormalities
costo-transeverse/costo-vertebral pt presents with
intercostal neuralgia-unilateral or bilateral
palpable or painful
deep ache that doesn’t subside after the spinal adjustment
anterior dorsals t4-t12 aka
potting saucer
as the spine straightens
ribs move forward, causes irritation on a few nerves
most of the problems with t4-t12 anterior dorsals caused by muscle imbalance and weakness of
serratus anterior
