What types of Drug treatment are there for Rate control?

Pharmacological and electrical

What is used for Rate control monotherapy? - Possible exam q DIVED BETA!!
A
1) Beta Blocker (not sotalol)
2) Rate limiting calcium channel blocker ( Diltiazem,Verapamil)
3) Digoxin (only for non paroxysmal AF, Sedimentary pts and patients with heart failure)
MONOTHERAPY!! Crucial to start with one drug at a time

What do we do if monotherapy is inadequate for rate?
A
We try combo -
SO - Betablocker and Digoxin, Betablocker and Diltiazem or Digoxin and Diltiazem - Avoid verapamil
IF this is still not controlled then we resort. to Rhythm

Rhythm Control - post cardioversion( which can be Pharmacological and or electrical)
