Ways Plaquenil affects eyes?
A
○ Ciliary body: defects in accommodation and blurred vision
○ Cornea: corneal deposits and blurred vision, halos, photophobia
○ Retina: edema and atrophy and abnormal pigmentation which can lead to scotoma and abnormal color vision

What the side effects of plaquenil, other than eye toxicity?
A
● Non-ocular: ○ GI: anorexia, nausea, diarrhea, cramps ○ Derm: rash, skin darkening ○ CNS: headaches, tinnitus, nervousness ○ Heme: hemolytic anemia if ○ Cardio: cardiomyopathy, myopathy (chronic use)

Mechanism of plaquenil
A
Exact mechanism unknown. Increases intracellular PH, leading to lysosomotropic action, inhibits phospholipase A2, inhibits several pro inflammatory cytokine.
