Q

what is type 1 hypersensitivity

A

immediate allergic
IgE driven –> mast cells –> histamine –> recruitment of inflammatory cells
effect: vasodilation, oedema, SM contraction, mucus productoin, inflammation
Example: anaphylaxis, asthma

Q

what is type 2 hypersensitivity?

A

cytotoxic antibody

mediators: IgM, IgG –> classic complement
effect: phagocytosis, cell lysis, inflammation
examples: grave disease, goodpasture, haemolytic anaemia, myosina gravis, rheumatic fever, DM

Q

type 3 hypersensitivity

A

immune complex mediated
medatiors: Ag:Ab complex –> complement activation –> leukocyte recruitment –> release of enzymes and other toxic molecules
neutrophils
effect: inflammation, necrotising vasculitis
example: SLE, some forms of glomerulonephritis, RA, reactive arthritis

Q

type 4 hypersensitivity

A

cell mediated - delayed hypersensitivty

mediators: activated T cells –> release of cytokines –> inflammation and macrophage activation, T cell mediated cytotoxity
effect: perivascular cellular infiltrates, oedema, cell destruction, granuloma formation
example: TB, IBD, MS, mantoux, contact dermatitis
