Allusion
an implied or indirect reference to a person, event, or thing or to a part of another text.
To my dog, our neighborhood park is the Garden of Eden
Analogy
a comparison of two otherwise unlike things based on resemblance of a particular aspect
“She’s as blind as a bat.”
Antithesis
“a contrast between two things”
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
Allegory
a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one.

Generalization
a general statement or concept obtained by inference from specific cases.

Hyperbole
exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally
I slept for a week after that tough practice
Juxtaposition
to place (different things) side by side (as to compare them or contrast them or to create an interesting effect)
An orange is not eaten or peeled in a way similar to an apple
Understatement
the description of something as having much less of a particular quality than it does
“It seems to be raining a little,” in the middle of a hurricane
Rhetorical Question
a question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer.
