Alliteration
Repitition of the same sound beginning several words or syllables in sequence.
Ex: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Allusion
Reference to person, place, something.
Ex: Because she helped Sister Eulodia, she was a Good Samaritan.
Anaphora
Reptition of word or phrase at the beginning of successive phrases, clauses or lines.
Ex: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.
Antimetabole
Repitition of words in reverse order.
Ex: Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
Antithesis
Opposition of ideas in a parallel construction.
Ex: Many are called, but few are chosen.
Archaic diction
old-fashioned choice of words.
Ex: asunder, hither
Asyndeton
Omission of conjunctions between phrases, clause, or words.
Ex: Are all thy conquests, glories, triumphs, spoils,
