Appeal to Fear
Using info to frighten the audience for the purpose of strengthening the argument
Anecdote
A short story of some happening.
Appeal to Patriotism
Persuading the audience to act by implying they are treasonous if they choose not to.
Appeal to Pride
Convincing the audience that they must act in order to keep their dignity and self-respect
Anticipation of Objection
Anticipating the opposing ideas and addressing them ahead of time
Bandwagon
An attempt to strengthen an argument by convincing the audience that they are the “winning” side
Contrasts
To point out large differences
Ad hominem
Personal attacks on people who oppose the argument to make them less credible
Flattery
Using praise in an attempt to connect to be audience and bring them to your side
Logical reasoning
Arguing according to the principles of reasoning
Repetition
Repeating words or phrases for emphasis
Rhetorical questioning
Asking a question to the audience to prompt thought ( does not require an answer)
