Hyperbole
an obvious and deliberate exaggeration to emphasize something or for humorous purposes
Euphemism
a mild or pleasant word or phrase used instead of one that could be unpleasant or offensive
Anaphora
the repetition of words at the beginning of a line
Epistrophe
the repetition of words at the end of a line
Parallellism
Successive words, phrases, clauses expressed with the same or very similar grammatical structure. Can add balance and rhythm and emphasis to argument. Often occurs with Anaphora and Epistrophe
Juxtaposition
Putting two contracting elements together that are so unlike that the effect is surprising, witty or startling. Often with Parallellism.
Understatement
statement that minimizes the significance of something or says less than it means; often for comedic effect
