Allusion

Analogy
A figurative device that draws a parallel between two unlike things that have several common qualities of points of resemblance
Diction
The word choice or style of speaking that a writer uses
Hyperbole
Refers to statements that use exaggeration of language to emphasize a point
Imagery
Uses vivid description that appeals to readers senses to create an image or idea in their head
Juxtaposition
When a writer or speaker places two things side by side to highlight their difference
Euphemism
A polite phrase or word used in place of one that may be too direct or harsh
Metaphor
Comparison between two unlike things
Perspective
How the text is being presented to readers. Whose point of view is the text being told from
Parallelism
A balance within one or more sentences of similar phrase or clauses that have the same grammatical structure
Rhetorical Question
When an author asks a question that not meant to be answered
Repetition
When an author repeats words or phrases to add emphasis on a specific topic

How the author feels about the topic
