Anecdote
A very short story related to the topic of the text.
Allusion
When an author uses a reference to a person, group, event, place, or art.
Analogy
A figurative device that draws a parallel between two unlike things that has several common qualities.
Diction
The word choice or style of speaking that the writer r speaker uses.
Hyperbole
Refers to statements that use exaggerated language to emphasize a point.
Imagery
Uses description that appeals to the senses to create an image or idea.
Juxtaposition
When a writer or speaker places two things side by side to highlight their differences.
Euphemism
A polite word or phrase used in place of one that may be too direct or harsh.
Metaphor
A comparison between two unlike things.
Perspective
How the text is presented to others.
Parallelism
A balance within one or more sentences of similar phrases or clauses that have the same grammatical structure.
Rhetorical Question
When an author or speaker asks a question that isn’t meant to be answered, but to prove a point.
Repetition
When an author repeats words or phrases to add emphasis.

How the author feels about the sunject
