Aesthetic
references to artistic elements or expressions within a textual work
Allegory
a narrative story used to convey an abstract, complex, or dangerous message
Alliteration
references the repetition of the same sound at the beginning of successive words
Ambiguity
references a word, phrase, or sentence whose meaning can be interpreted in more than one way
Analogy
references an extended comparison between two things/instances/people etc. that share some similarity to make a point
Anecdote
references a usually short narrative of an interesting, amusing, or biographical incident
Connotation
the use of a word to suggest a different association than its literal meaning
Deductive reasoning
a logical approach where you progress from general ideas to specific conclusions
Denotation
the literal meaning of a word, the dictionary definition
Diction
a writer’s choice of words, phrases, sentence structures, and figurative language, which combine to help create meaning
Didactic
tone; instructional, designed to teach an ethical, moral, or religious lesson
Epistrophe
ending a series of lines, phrases, clauses, or sentences with the same word or words
Ethos
appealing to credibility
Imagery
descriptive language that provides vivid images that evoke the senses

a method of drawing conclusions by going from the specific to the general.
