Ethos

pathos
appeal to emotion, what the readers feels
logos
appeal to reason, main method of persuasion
Anaphora
repetition of words at the begging sentences (for emphasis)
antithesis
opposition or contrast of ideas in parallel structure (to show range, contrast)
allusion
indirect reference to something famous (build ethos, associate pathos)
analogy
2 unrelated things are compared for similar qualities (to clarify unfamiliar with familiar)
metaphor
direct comparison of unlike things (understand new ideas, catch readers audience)
paradox
a statement appears at first to be contradictory, but after reflection makes sense (interest, irony)
polysyndeton
repetition of conjunctions in sentences that wouldn’t usually be there
asyndeton
leaving out conjunctions where they normally are
