It is an angry ornery lead that is often but not always a paradox, it is the opposite unpopular side of something. You can attack a large amount of popular conventions with this lead. It is like a grumpy old man.

A

Dividing things up into two categories, the whole point of a split lead is for you yourself to fall into one of the categories. It is usually used for a light essay.

A

A

The last sentence of your first paragraph. Specifically says what you’re going to talk about. It must stand out from all the other essays your teacher reads. It is the sentence you need to change most in your essay.

This is a thesis that looks like a thesis but is not, it’s too obvious, requires little proof, and is not argumentative i.e. Boring.

A

It’s a thesis statement that starts out generally with if, they are based on if this had happened then this would happen, there is no obvious support in the text to back them up so they’re garbage.

A

It is the first sentence of every paragraph except conclusion and intro. It’s like a mini thesis. It must pass the TC-SIM test. It must be manageable for one paragraph.
