“Maximum Provenance Rheinhessen” is the current iteration of Message in a Bottle. Message in a Bottle was formed in 2001 as a group of winemakers focused on elevating Rheinhessen winemaking by focusing on stricter standards of dry, site-driven styles of wine. There are currently around 90 members.

The Red Slope. A 5 km (3.2 mile) escarpment of Permian Rotliegendes, a reddish sandstone. The vineyards are around 170 meters high and mainly east and southeast-facing.
