Rheingau Flashcards
What varietal is mostly planted in the Rheingau?
The Rheingau is simply too well suited to Riesling; the region has a higher proportion of the grape (nearly 80% of vineyard acreage) than any other anbaugebiet.
What are a few differences between the Rieslings from Rheingau than the Mosel?
The wines are typically fuller in body and more concentrated, yet acidity can be bracing. Dry wines account for over half of the Rheingau Riesling production, and the VDP has listed more sites for Erste Lage in the Rheingau than any other anbaugebiet. A traditional flute-shaped brown bottle, the Rheingauer Flöte, is sometimes used to bottle Riesling in the Rheingau, whereas the Mosel uses green glass.
