A

Took place on March 5, 1770 large crowd of angry colonists gathered near several British soldiers and threw rocks and snowballs at them. British soldiers opened fire and killed 3 colonists on the spot. 2 others died later. - Crispus Attucks was one of the people killed.

A

December 16,1773 - 150 members of the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians and threw over 300 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. They were boycotting the Tea Act which meant they had to Buy Tea from the East India Company.

Coercive Acts

A

Parliament passed laws to punish the Massachusetts colonists. Also known as the Intolerable Acts, these laws United colonists against Britain. Closed port of Boston until destroyed tea from Boston tea party was paid for. Boston Harbor was blockaded. Prevented the Massachusetts legislature from meeting. Colonists were forced to quarter or house British soldiers.

A

Congress signed a request to the king reminding them of their basic rights as British citizens. Right to Life and Liberty. Right to Assemble, Right to Trial by Jury. Congress voted to stop trade with Britain. Asked colonies to form militias, or armies of citizens.

Battle of Lexington and Concord

A

General Gage sent 700 British soldiers to Lexington and Concord because he heard that Samuel Adams and John Hancock were meeting in Lexington. Paul Revere, member of Sons of Liberty, found out about General Gage’s plan and rode a horse to Lexington to warn Adams, Hancock and the townspeople that the British were coming to fight so the Minutemen could be ready to fight.
