Lexington and Concord
Patriots sought guns and ammunition in concord. 800n British troops marched towards concord to seize the supplies. Paul Revere warned the patriots the british were coming. Minutemen ready for the British in Lexington, Shot heard around the world fired. The British marched back to concord.
Battle of Bunker (Breed’s) Hill-
Americans had control of two BUnker and Breedś hill and built fortifications. The British marched up Breedś Hill 3 times under General Howe before declaring victory. Americans lost because they ran out of ammunition. Americans considered it a victory because of the number of British casualties.
Trenton-
2.400 troops crossed the Delaware River with Geroge Washington on Christmas night. The Americans surprised Hessians and won the battle. It was a necessary victory after several American losses.
Saratoga-
The American defeat of the superior British army lifted patriot morale, furthered the hope for independence, and helped to secure the foreign support needed to win the war.
Valley Forge -
Americans camped at Valley Forge for the winter. Disease and death spread through the cams. Baron Von Steuben, trained Continental soldiers in marching and sanitation. Washington worked on acquiring weapons, food, and clothing for his men.
Yorktown -
The French joined the Continental Army. The French and American forces were double that of Britain. Britain surrendered.
Second Continental Congress-
They established a Continental army and elected George Washington as Commander-in-Chief, but the delegates also drafted the Olive Branch Petition and sent it to King George III in hopes of reaching a peaceful resolution
Enlightenment Ideals-
the reason that they felt justified in revolting against britain. John Locke montesquieu, and hobbies.
Treaty of Paris (1783)
Britain recognized American Independence . The Mississippi river was the boundary between the United States and Spanish territory. Great Britain withdrew troops from America. Loyalists would be protected by the U.S government.
