revision topic 7 Flashcards
what are alkalis
they are soluble hydroxides
what are bases
they are substances that neutralize acids
what makes a solution acidic
H+
what makes a solution alkaline
OH-
what is the color of an acidic solution once a universal indicator is added
orange/red
what is the color of an alkalis solution once a universal indicator is added
lilac/purple
what is the color of a neutral solution once a universal indicator is added
green
how is a salt formed
it is formed once the hydrogen in an acid is replaced by metal
show neutralizing reaction
acid + base ——–> a salt + water
salts formed from HCl…
contains chloride ions
salts formed from HSO…
contains sulfate ions
salts formed from HNO…
contains nitric ions
explain how you make copper salt
- add excuses insoluble copper oxide to sulfuric acid and swirl, then filter the solution from excuses copper oxide, then produce to run a water bath for the filtrate of copper chloride then keep heating the filtrate till the point of crystallization which can determine once crystals form the remove from water bath put in room temperature and wait till the rest evaporates and the crystals to form completely
what is a precipitation reaction
it is when 2 soluble salts react to form an insoluble salt
explain how to make an insoluble salt
add potassium iodine to lead nitrate and swirl then remove the lead iodine by filtration leaving you with solid potassium nitrate which is washed with distilled water and dried
