Refers to our surroundings. When working we must prevent or reduce harm to the environment

Define the term employer
A person or organisation for which people work
Define the term employee
A person who works for wages or a salary
HASAWA 1974
States that duties of employers, which they must legally abide to. Must protect health, safety and welfare of all employees or any others on site
Define the term chronic illness
A long term persistent illness lasting 3 months or more
Define acute illness
An illness that has an abrupt on set affect which is short term
Define the term health
Injuries, illness and disease. Health issues maybe chronic or acute
Water fire extinguishers
Used for class A fire’s - combustible materials (paper or wood)
Foam (cream) fire extinguisher
Used on class A + B fires combustible materials and flammable liquids
Dry powder fire extinguishers
Used on class A, B, C and D and electrical fires expect for deep fat fryers
What is a class A fire?
A fire caused by combustible materials such as paper or wood
What is a class B fire?
A fire caused by flammable liquids such as paint or petrol
What is a class C fire
A fire caused by flammable gases such as butane or methane
What is a class D fire
A fire caused by flammable metals such as lithium or potassium
What is a electrical fire?
A fire caused by electrical equipment
What is a class F fire
A fire caused by deep fat fryers or chip pans
How does a water fire extinguisher work?
Acts as a cooling effect on temperature of the fire. Makes it impossible for fire burn and eventually extinguishes the flames
What does a dry powder fire extinguisher do?
Interrupts the chemical reaction taking place. Cuts of the oxygen supply to the fire.
How does a wet chemical fire extinguisher work?
Forms a thick soapy foam like blanket over the surface of the burning oil/fat which stops oxygen reaching fire.
