- Inflammatory stage

Describe the inflammatory stage
Initiates inflammation
Produces heat, redness and swelling
Haemorrhage followed by haemostasis
Describe debridement stage
Migration of white blood cells
Removal debris and foreign material
Describe the repair stage
Capillaries migrate into scar tissue to produce granulation tissue
Describe maturation stage
Repaired tissue is replaced by collagen
Scar tissue contracts
Difference between first intention and second intention wound healing
First intention is primary wound healing or closure and occurs when the wound edges are not widely separated and held together by blood clots
Second intention is secondary wound healing or spontaneous healing, which heal by contraction and epithelialisation
Describe wound dehiscence
The seperation of all layers of an incision or wound. Can result in break down of a wound all or part of its length
