- Report
Each paragraph should contain, in the following order: Topic sentence( summarises the content/argument of the paragraph); Supporting sentences(adding more information/evidence to back up the topic sentence); Closing sentence( summarising the topic).
- News article
Contains a headline summarising the story, a byline giving the key information, before moving onto the body paragraphs, adding detail about the story. Will generally contain facts, opinions,direct speech and reported speech. Written in the past tense, though may have a paragraph exploring future effects.
- Speech
Usually contains rhetorical devices, as the speaker is generally trying to persuade the listener of something. In particular,may include lots of repetition, examples, facts and statistics.
- Letter
Starts with a salutation (dear sir or Madame,to whom it may concern, dear mrs jones.)
Ends with a valediction (yours faithfully[if you use a name in the salutation], yours sincerely[ if you do not use a name in the salutation.]
Rhetorical devices:
Alliteration
The same letter or sound at the beginning or adjacent or closely connected words
Facts
Information used as evidence which can be proven true
Opinions
A view or judgement formed about something,not necessarily based on facts or knowledge.
Reader focus
First or second person pronouns.
Rhetorical questions
A question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point, rather than to get an answer.
Repetition
Repeating key facts or words
Emotive language
Words chosen to evoke strong emotion, often sympathy, fear or happiness.
Exaggeration/hyperbole
A statement that presents something as better or worse than it really is
Examples
Something illustrating or exemplifying a key issue or fact
Statistics
A fact or piece of data obtained from a study of a large quantity of numerical data

A set or succession of three similar things
