Revision Flashcards
Property of metal physical properties
Good conductor of electricity
Good conductor of heat
Shiny
High density(heavy for its size)
Malleable(you can hammer it into different shapes.)
Ductile(you can pull it into wires)
Sonorous(makes a ringing sound if you hit it)
Physical properties of Non-metals
Poor conductor of heat Poor conductor of electricity Dull Low density(light for its size) Brittle(breaks easily) Not sonorous
Physical properties of group 1.
They are all soft metals that are easily cut with a scalpel or knife. At first the metals are shiny/but after they get tarnished because they react with oxygen. The metals become more reactive as you go down the group.
Physical properties of group 7
They have a low melting point and boiling point. The melting and boiling points increase as you go down the group. The halogens become darker as you go down the group.
What is a group?
In the periodic table the vertical columns are called group have similar properties. Going down a group there is a pattern in the properties such as melting point, boiling point and density
What is a period?
The horizontal rows of the periodic table are called periods. Going across a period there are patterns in the properties of the elements.
Hemical properties of group 1
They are soft Mailable Ductile Very reactive Melting decreases from top to bottom As you go down the more reactive it becomes
Chemical properties of group 7.
The colour gets darker as you go down. The reaction gets more vigorous from top to bottom.
Physical properties of group 0
The properties of group 0 elements are they have a low melting and boiling point like many other gases they are colourless gases at room temperature.
Chemical properties of group 0
They are unreactive gases.
