What are the parts of a wetsuit?
The closed cell
Foam neoprene
A synthetic rubber containing bubbles of nitrogen gas.
How do you equalise? 2 ways
Squeeze nose and blow gently
Swallow and wriggle jaw
What is equalisation?
The act of keeping yourself from ear injuries by equalising the pressure in your head/ears
Why should you use the buddy system?
It makes snorkelling safe and allows you to feel comfortable and enjoy your snorkelling
What is positive buoyancy?
Floating
What is negative buoyancy?
Sinking
What is neutral buoyancy?
Neither sinking or floating but staying in the same position.
What are 3 factors of swell conditions?
Wind strength/speed
Wind duration
Fetch
Name the Types of waves.
Spilling
Surging

Why do waves break?
They become too steep and fall.
What is a littoral current?
A current that is parallel to the shore.
What is a rip?
A rip is water returning back out after being in a wave.
What are some signs of a rip?
Foam on top of water
Debris in water
Colourless brown water
Ripple surrounded by calm water
What is a spring tide?
When the Earth, Sun and moon are aligned.
