Revision Flashcards
What does CAD stand for?
Computer-aided Design
What does CAM stand for?
Computer-aided Manufacturing
What is hatching/rendering?
Different finishes or materials can be displayed
What is an advantage of hatching/rendering?
can do many ‘what if’ type investigations to explore the best finishes.
what is zoom?
enhance parts of a drawing to make it bigger
what is an advantage of zoom?
to produce work of more detail or add detailed design
what are plotters used for?
hard copies of drawings
what is walkthrough?
visit rooms in 2d etc.
what is an advantage of walkthrough?
allows spatial awareness of what the design looks like in relation to other features.
what is costing?
produces an estimate of the costs of building materials.
what is an advantage of costing?
automatic estimates allows designers to work within a budget or see different options.
what is rotate?
rotate in 3d across X,Y and Z axis.
what is an advantage of rotation?
see design from all angles on the outside.
what is stress+strain?
working out the weights materials can take.
what is an advantage of stress+strain?
avoids disasters when building as the designer should build well into the safety requirements.
