What is nature ?
The behaviour are the product of the genetic inheritance and biological factors
What is nurture?
It’s the external factors of social and environmental factors
What is the Gesell maturation theory?
Focuses on the child development, he suggested that children will go through the same stages of development but at their own rate. He also said the pattern of development are determined by the individual heredity
What is genetic predisposition?
Inherited genes that determine physical growth, development, health and appearance
Give an example of genetic predisposition conditions?
Cystic fibrosis, brittle bone disease and down syndrome
What are the biological factors that affect development?
Foetal alcohol syndrome, maternal infections, lifestyle/ diet during pregnancy
What are the environmental factors that affects development?
Exposure to pollution, respiratory disorder, poor housing, anxiety and depression
How can health care services have an affect on development?
The availability of transport, opening hours services, people who don’t have access to services
What are social factors that affect development ?
Dysfunctional family, parental divorce, sibling rivalry, parenting style, bullying, culture
What are the economic factors that affect development?
Income, employment status, eduction and lifestyle
What is the holmes-rahe social readjustment rating scale?
This is used to measure life events
