What is paraphrase ?
Restating your own words what someone else wrote or said
What is inference?
A conclusion drawn from evidence and reasoning
What is synonym ?
A word that has a similar meaning to another word. For example: happy and joyous; big and large; funny and humorous
What is Thesaurus ?
A resource that lists synonyms for words
What is characterization ?
Development of characters through physical description, thoughts, feelings, words, actions and other’s reaction
What is direct characterization ?
Author tells us what a character’s appearance or personality is like
What is indirect characterization ?
Author shows character development through physical description, thoughts, speech, action and reactions of other characters
What is end-stop ?
A dash, comma, or period at the end of a line of poetry; it tells us to pause before moving on
What is Enjambment ?
The running over of a sentence or phrase from one poetic line to the next, without a pause or end punctuation
What is irony ?
Difference between expectation and reality
What is situational irony ?
An event that contradicts the expectations of the reader or audience
What’s dramatic irony ?
The audience or readers know something that the character in the story do not
What is verbal irony ?
A writer or speaker says one thing but means the other
What is symbol ?
A type of figurative language in which a tangible object represents or stands for a larger idea

A word that means the opposite of another word
