What are two reasons for using a DSO to check wiring circuit?
THE DSO is the best tool to check a wiring circuit for two primary reasons. 1. It won’t damage the circuit being tested, including any control modules. It has a large internal resistance that doesn’t put any load on the circuit being tested. 2. It allows a very detailed measurement that can be seen in a visual format, aiding in intermittent problem diagnosis.
What must you always do whenperforming a voltage drop test?
Voltage drop testing requires that the circuit is active, and that you put your test lead in parallel in the circuit.
True or False? Open circuit voltage and source voltage are always the same.
True
What are two reasons that the same component would be shown twice on a wiring diagram?
Often times components may be shown twice on the same diagram due to different market vehicle specifications. Always make sure you know the vehicle specifications of the vehicle being repaired.
What is meant by open circuit voltage?
Open circuit voltage is the voltage available across an open in a circuit.
The amperage measurement of a window motor is lower than average. What could be the cause?
The most likely cause to a low amperage measurement would a high resistance in the circuit.
How does resistance change the voltage of a series electrical circuit?
As resistance increases in a circuit, the voltage decreases.
What must you do with the T46 shunt connector when using special tool VAS 1598/38?
When diagnosing the CAN network using VAS 1598/38, the shunt connector must be removed from the tool, and the connector from the vehicle installed into the tool. This completes the circuit through the tool and allows proper testing.
What are you measuring when you do a voltage drop test?
While performing a voltage drop test you are testing for the difference in voltage between the locations of the test leads.
Why is it important to measure thesource voltage of circuit you’re troubleshooting?
Source voltage is always important to know so that you can verify the amount of voltage prior to any electrical testing.
What are two sources you could look at to find information about the wiring for the CAN-bus breakout terminals??
Wiring Diagrams Guided Fault Finding documents
What are three advantages of a distributive function electrical system design?
Less overall wiring for the vehicle (less expensive, Less Weight) Diagnostic simplicity Increased reliability
