Questions
Why is it so important that our Saviour is truly and fully both human and God? (Art. 19-20)
Only a true man could stand in our place and receive punishment for man’s sin. Only true God could enable a true man to suffer the full punishment of God’s wrath

What kind of work does Christ do as our High Priest? (Heb 7:23-27) (Art. 21-22)
He intercedes for us and was the ultimate sacrifice. Just like a high priest intercedes for the people and offers sacrifices for the sins of the people to be forgiven.
If you fall into sin many times
feel terrible about yourself and are ashamed of your sin and doubt whether God could ever want to forgive you
Christ already paid for these sins
so it’s not the quality of repentance but the quality of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
Article 23 is about how we can stand before God’s judgment seat and not be condemned. Explain who all the parties are (Judge
Defendant
Defendant: the human race (especially believers)
Judge: God
Charge: all our sins
we are law breakers
Prosecuting Attorney: evil conscience
Satan- accuser of our brothers
Initial Verdict: we are guilty as charged- all humans die
Defendant Attorney: Jesus Christ
Final Verdict: no condemnation because of Jesus
What is the difference between justification and sanctification? (Art. 23 & 24)
Justification: legally declared right in in God’s eyes(one-time)
Sanctification: the process of becoming holy through the Holy Spirit(ongoing)
According to God’s Word
how are we to judge a genuinely “good” work from a bad one? (Heb 11:6;
Matt 7:17; 1 Cor 10:31) (Art 23 & 24)
Any work that we do has to come from faith in god
in obedience to his law and with an intention to his glory.
According to Hebrews 8:5 and 10:1
what is meant by the “shadows of the law”? (Art. 25)
They are symbols that point to and reveal teachings about Christ.
