Review General terms Flashcards
What are the standard orientation terms in the body?
Anterior-Posterior (front lines of body and rear point of body) then medial-lateral ( near the mid-line of body verses the sides of the body) Superior-inferior (top to bottom )
Why is there another two sets of terms for orientation?
dorsal/ventral and Rostral/Causal
Why can it be confusing?
There are two orientation lines in the brain, one that goes in a 125 angle relative to the straight up and down axis of orientation along the brain stem because for the brain with the stem o be level you are not on a 90 degree plane
What terms are used along the axis that is horizontal?
Rostral and caudal with the dorsal of the fore brain being superior and the ventral of the fore brain being along the floor of the frontal lobe; while the dorsal of the brain stem is the cerebellum which is behind the pons ( which are ventral)
