What’s the point of a Pre trip inspections
To help you find problems that can cause a crash or break down
During a trip you should:
Watch gauges for signs of trouble
Use you senses to check for problems
Check these 7 critical items when u stop
Tires, wheels, rims Brakes Brakes and electrical connections Lights and reflectors Trailer coupling devices Cargo securing devices Mirrors
Check tires for these 7
Duals that touch Cut or cracked valve stems Proper air pressure Mismatched sizes Minimum thread depth - 4/32 on steering axles - 2/32 all others Bad wear (cuts bruises, thread separation) Radial or bias ply tires used together
Check these 4 for wheel and rim problems
Rust around nuts (check for tightness)
Missing clamps, spacers, lugs or studs
Mismatched, bent or cracked lock rings
Wheels or rims that have welded repairs
Check brake drums and lining
Cracked drums
Shoes or pads with oil, Grease or brake fluid
Shoes or pads worn thin missing or broken
System steering defects check for
Missing nuts, bolts, cutter keys, or other parts from steerin arm or links
Bent loose or broken parts, such as steering Colums , steering gear box, or tie rods

Missing/ broken leaves; 1/4 inch or more requires service
Cracked or broken spring hangers

Step 1 Overview
Look for damage, vehicle leaning side to side, look underneath for leaks, windshield, wiper blades, wiper arms, hazards when pulling out
Step 2 engine check
Engine oil, coolant, power steering fluid, battery fluid, automatic transmission fluid levels,
Check belts for tightness and wear
Leaks
And all connections
Step 3 in cab
Start engine
Check abs
Check Gages for air pressure, oil,temperature, volt meter
Clean mirrors and adjust
Windshield has no illegal stickers or cracks
Windshield wipers
Emergency equipment (extinguisher, spare fuses, 3 cones)
Turn signals and flashers
Test heater
Test parking and service brakes
Seat belt
Air break test
