What are the 5 postulates?
1: All matter is made of atoms 2: All particles are attracted to each other 3: when particles are hotter they move faster (same other way around) 4: All particles have space between them 5: Particles are always in constant motion
What are pure substances
Pure substances are substances with only one kind of particle throughout example Carbon Dioxide (compound) Oxygen (element)
What are mixtures
A mixture is a solution of substances that are not all the same. A physical mixing not chemically connected Ex Trail Mix (heterogeneous) Saltwater (homogeneous)
What is an element?
One type of atom Ex. Oxygen
Give an example of an element?
Oxygen, Helium, Bromine
Give an example of a solution?
A solution is just a mixture
What is a heterogeneous mixture?
Substances are not evenly distributed (you can see the difference)
What is a homogenous mixture?
Substances are evenly distributed (if you have salt water you will get an even amount of salt and water)
Give an example of a compound?
Multiple pure substances chemically bonded (carbon dioxide)
What is the acronym for qualitative properties?
What is the acronym for chemical properties?
How are hardness and brittle properties different?
Provide an example of lure?
Provide an example of hardness?
Provide an example of chemical properties?
Define: combustibility
Define: stability
Define: toxicity
Give three examples of combustibility
Give three examples of stability
Give three examples of toxicity?
Mass vs. volume
The volume of a Can of YOGURT MCYOYO is 500 ml^3 and the density of YOGURT MCYOYO is 400 mg - what is its mass?
Eric is 600 kg, and he has a volume of 1500 g^3 how dense is this unit of a human?
Describe chemical changes?
Describe the distinction between chemical and physical change?
Law of Conservation?
Can the state of matter change?
Describe 3 physical changes?
Explain why a chemical change causes NO change in mass
