REVIEW Flashcards
35 year old male, BM1 Gomez Addams, reports to medical with complaints of knee pain following a recreational dive 16 hours ago while on liberty in (insert port). BM1 Addams states that the pain is 5/10 dull and achy with no radiating pain or known MOI. There is no comfortable position and the performance of full ROM does not alleviate or worsen pain. PT is alert and oriented and ambulated to medical without assistance. Diving history includes 60FSW for 63 minutes.
Vitals: HR: 68; BP: 135/70; RR: 14; SPO2: 98%; Temp: 98.2
Neuro: A&O x 3; CN II-XII intact, ROM intact, Sensory intact
Resp: CTA bilaterally all lobes, no adventitious lung sounds
Cardio: RRR; no murmurs rubs or gallops. No heaves or lifts.
PMI less than 1cm. No heaves, or thrills. Distal pulses 1+, carotid and femoral pulses 2+, Capillary refill time is 3 seconds.
What is your Diagnosis and treatment plan?
Dx: Type I decompression sickness
Tx:
1) 100% Surface Oxygen via non rebreather mask
2) Transport to the nearest Recompression Chamber
