Reverb Flashcards
What are the four stages of reverb?
Source signal, early reflections, RT60 (body), decay
What is RT60 measured in?
Seconds/ms
Identify two forms of natural reverb
Room reverb, chamber reverb
Identify two forms of mechanical reverb
Spring reverb, plate reverb
Describe the characteristics of chamber reverb
Full frequency response, low end heavy compared to most, natural sound, long RT60
Identify two forms of digital reverb
Digital reverb plugins, convolution reverb
Describe the characteristics of plate reverb
Thinner, less natural sound with less low end than chamber reverb, can have a longer RT60 without it being muddy
Describe the characteristics of spring reverb
High frequency sound that does not replicate the sound of a natural room
Describe the characteristics of digital reverb
Highly adjustable sound due to their range of parameters, generally not able to sound natural until advancements in technology (DAW era plugins)
What is convolution reverb, and how is it created
A digital reverb that aims to replicate the sound of a real space, created via a sine wave sweep of a room to accurately recreate how the room reacts to a broad range of frequencies
Name some parameters associated with reverb
RT60, decay, wet/dry, pre-delay, EQ (low cut/high cut), density
How quickly are the early reflections found after the source signal
Within 30ms
