reveiw page ig Flashcards
What is the definition of an electric charge?
an imbalance of electric charge on the surface of the object
What is the definition of a current charge?
a controlled flow of electrons through a conductor
what does a positive charge mean?
more protons than electrons
what does a negative charge mean?
less protons, more electrons
what does a neutral charge mean?
a equal number of protons and electrons
What is the law of electric charges
like charges repel, opposites attract, charged loves neutral
Explain friction
neutral objects rubbed together, depending on the electrostatic series, one becomes positive one becomes negative
Explain conduction
If 2 charged objects touch each other they will both become the same charge or neutral. If a charged object touches a neutral object, both objects will have that same resultant charge.
explain induction
Occurs when an already charged object is brought close to a neutral object.
what is conductors, and name some conductors
a conductor is something electrons can move easily through, some examples would be, meatals, salt water, earth, human body, water vapors
what is insulators and name some?
an insulator is somethiing that doesbt allow electrons to flow through , some insulators are, silk, wood, plastic , rubber, glass, pure water, ebonite rod
lighting
electric discharge, the rapid transfer of electric charge from one object to another
lighting rod (iron and copper)
are used to safely direct lighting into the ground
