What is revealed theology
God chooses to reveal himself to humans directly e.g scriptures
What knowledge is revealed theology
Knowledge that could not be worked out by human reason alone and faith not intellect
What does revealed theology confirm
Making it a strength
Confirms natural theology but uncovers truths e.g trinity, Jesus and afterlife
Where does revelation originate
New Testament ,Apocalypse of unveiling making something clear that was hidden
What are the two types of revelation
Immediate and mediate revelation
What is immediate revelation ?
God directly and immediately communicates with his people , the exact words of God e.g Adam and Eve, Abraham and Moses
Who is the current source of immediate revelation to God
The pope as he has a one way communication with God
What is mediate revelation ?
People learn about God and gain knowledge about him less directly through someone else
Example of mediate revelation
Bible is a mediate revelation as it involves second hand experience of Christian’s about their experiences of God
Revealed theology : weakness
- God can reveal himself to some and not others
- revelations are open to misinterpretation, how can you tell if it’s true or not
- revelation is too exclusive , what about non Christian’s
