Rev Flashcards
Rate of reaction
The rate in which a reaction takes place
Change in mass
Recording the loss in mass over time
Collision theory
Colission theory states that particles must collide succesfully in order for a reaction
What is activation energy
The minimal amiunt if energy two particles must collide with in order to react
How does temperature affect RoR
The higher the temperature the more kinetic enrgy the particles will have meaning they will react quicker
How does concentration affect RoR
Increasing the concentration increases the number of reacting particles
How does surface area affect rate of reaction
The smaller the surface area the quicker the particles will react because there are more available parts to react with
What is a catalyst
A catalyst is something that is used to speed up a reaction
What is the unit for RoR when involving change in mass
G/s
What is the unit of RoR when involving loss in volume
Cm3/s
What is the equation for calculating the mean RoR
Mean rate = change in quality or product
________________________________
Time Taken
What effect does increasing the pressue of a reaction have
There is less space for the particles to move around
How do catalysts speed up the RoR
Lowers the activation energy
What is a independent variable
a variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure: temperature
What is an dependent variable
the variable that changes as a result of the independent variable manipulation : Time taken
