Retina And Blood Flow Flashcards
What are the layers of the retina and their blood supply?
Retina layers:
- ILM
- NFL
- GCL
- IPL
- INL
- OPL
- ONL
- ELM
- PHOTORECEPTOR
- RPE
Bottom 4 layer- rpe, photo, elm, onl=choroid blood supply
Other layers the blood is given from the central retinal artery
What are the layers of the artery?
Tunica external Tunica media Tunica intima (internal)
How does blood travel to the ONH?
Blood travels via the internal carotid artery and goes to the ophthalmic artery and then the blood is supplied to the central retinal artery which supplies the ONH
What does an artery divide into?
Artery-arteriole-capillaries
What is the job of a vein?
Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart (no oxygen left so going to heart to get more)
What is the job of an artery?
Carry oxygenated blood to the tissues
Explain the drainage via the veins into the circulation?
Blood from capillaries go into the venules which travel to the central retinal vein which then gives blood back into the circulation via the cavernous sinus
Explain an AV crossing
This is where an artery goes over a vein. 70% of arteries going over veins but it’s rare for veins to go over arteries but definitely possible
