Q

Characteristics of Aflibercept?

A

Recombinant fusion protein. It acts as a soluble decoy receptor that binds to VEGF-A (vascular endothelial growth factor-A) and PlGF (placental growth factor).

Q

What are the main characteristics of angiomatous proliferation (RAP)?

A

Neovascularisation originates in the retina, close to the outer plexiform layer. It tends to progress towards the subretinal space and continues across the RPE, growing into the sub-RPE space. Initially, it respects the peripapillary location and the foveal avascular zone. In more than 50% of cases, characteristic retinal-retinal anastomosis can be observed. It is estimated that it becomes bilateral in almost 100% of patients. It is commonly associated with thin choroids.
