What do you look for on general inspection?
Patients body habitus
Any obvious enlarged lymph nodes
Any rashes - these could be cutaneous manifestations of lymphoma
Obvious jaundice
What is the order of palpation of the lymph nodes?
Head and neck
Axilla
Inguinal
What would an enlarged left supraclavicular node indicate
Most likely metastatic (usually)
Gastric cancer
Apart from the lymph nodes what else are you wanting to palpate
Liver and spleen
Percuss also
How would you complete the examination?
FBC
Further imaging if required e.g, CXR/ultrasound/CT
Biopsy of the lymph node
What are the different lymph nodes in the axilla called?
Central Lateral Infraclavicular Pectoral Subscapular
What would a hard and irregular lymph node suggest?
Malignancy
What would a painful node suggest?
Infection
