A
When anemia is suspected, and to assess bone marrow response

A
When nRBCs are greater than # than reticulocytes, bone marrow damage

What does an increased reticulocyte count indicate?
A
Regenerative or responsive anemia

What does a decreased reticulocyte count indicate?
A
Non-regenerative anemia

What will increase and what will decrease with an increased reticulocyte count?
A
MCV will increase (larger size), and MCHC will decrease (not carrying full hemoglobin content)
