What do you tell the person when calling 999?
Patient is unconscious and is in CARDIAC ARREST, give location, contact number and as for emergency equipment (AED, BVM, O2 and suction)

Whenever they are available

- Head tilt, chin lift
- Jaw thrust
What should you do when checking if the patient is breathing?
Look, listen and feel
What are abnormal, infrequent gasps that are sometimes confused as normal breathing called?
Agonal gasps
how frequent and deep should compressions be?
5cm-6cm and 100-120 compressions per minute
If shock from AED is advised what should you do?
- Tell everyone to STAND CLEAR
- LOOK to ensure that everyone is clear
- MOVE any oxygen to 1 metre away
- DELIVER THE SHOCK
How powerful is the AED?
150 joules = 4,800 volts
If no shock is advised from AED what should you do?
Continue CPR
How much oxygen should you give a patient?
15 litres of 100% oxygen
What do you use to open up the oropharyngeal airway?
Use airway adjuncts - insert upside down and twist 180 degrees
What should yo do for post-resuscitation care?
- Lateral or recovery position
- Reassure casualty
- DO NOT remove AED pads
- REASSESS A,B,C
